Things are desperate.  But liberals like Michelle Obama and her husband need you to think they are so that they have justificaiton to implement extraordinary government measures.  The “economic stimulus” bill, which you’ll remember was so dreadfully important that it couldn’t even be delayed long enough for members of Congress to read it before it was voted on, is an example of this.  Nationalized health care is another example.
